Public Meeting on planning issues
A public meeting has been called to discuss
the Bournemouth Core Strategy and planning isssues that
affect Winton.
A council representative will be present to
explain and answer questions.
The meeting will be at 7.00 pm on Friday
30 July at Richmond Park Bowls Club, Winton Rec.
The Bournemouth Plan - Core Strategy Preferred
Options Consultation
Bournemouth Borough Council is currently looking
at the future of the town. Council planning policies play
a big role in shaping Bournemouth's future - they are a
major factor in determining where we live, work shop and
play, how we travel around the town and what impact we have
on the environment. Important decisions have to be made
about how Bournemouth will develop in the next 20 years
or so and we want as many people as possible to be involved
in planning for the future.
The Bournemouth Plan is part of the 'Local
Development Framework' that will eventually replace the
existing Local Plan. The consultation on the Preferred Options
stage of this document is now open and continues until 13th
August 2010. This document suggests an overall vision for
the future of the town and gives a strategy to achieve the
vision. The document also looks in more detail at the individual
areas making up the town under the banner of "Delivering
Sustainable Communities". The associated Sustainability
Appraisal is also part of this consultation. We want your
views and opinions.
More information, downloadable copies of
both of the documents and response forms can be found on
our website at www.bournemouth.gov.uk/CoreStrategy.
In addition the documents are available for
inspection at the Town Hall Annexe, St Stephen's Road, Bournemouth
(9.00am - 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 9.00am - 4.00pm
Friday) and at all local libraries in the Borough during
their normal opening times , the details of which are available
via the following link http://www.bournemouth.gov.uk/Residents/Libraries/A_Library_Near_You.asp.
If you have any queries, please contact the Planning Policy
Team on 01202 451323, or e-mail planning.policy@bournemouth.gov.uk.
Winton Community Forum has sent in its
response to the Consultation. See

A message from

Thanks to your efforts we were able to greatly
reduce the number of deliberately started fires in Dorset
last year.
This year we want to go a step beyond and
stop firesetters altogether. Dorset Fire and Rescue Service
is working in partnership with our local communities, including
partner organisations in both voluntary and public sector,
local authority, and Dorset Police. Through engagement with
the local community together we can influence the areas
in which we all live to reduce the number of ALL fires.
This helps to enhance the environment in which you live
to make Dorset a safer place for everyone to enjoy.
In order to do this we need your help. We
need you to keep an eye out and report any information you
may have to the Police or Crimestoppers. With your help
and support we can maintain the beauty of the heathlands
and countryside in Dorset for all to enjoy.
Keep the Crimestoppers number handy and report
information anonymously on 0800 555 111

Cannabis farms
Police are clamping down on cannabis cultivation.
It usually takes place in rented houses and can have serious
negative consequences both for landlords and neighbours.
If you suspect a property is being used in
the production of cannabis, look out for:
- A strong, pungent small coming from the property
- Electrical wiring that has been tampered with
- Booby traps. Electrical wiring may have been rigged
up to door handles etc
- Powerful lights left on in the house throughout the
night
- Blacked out windows
- A sudden jump or increase in the cost of electricity
bills
- Scuffed paint or wallpaper
- Bin bags full of vegetable material dumped in the garden
- Rewiring efforts or tampering with meter boxes.
The production of synthetic drugs such as
methamphetamine (crystal meth), amphetamine (speed), LSD
and MDMA (Ecstasy) is incredibly dangerous. Most chemicals
required are readily available but the process involved
in producing them is extremely volatile. Productions of
these drugs can be small scale and may not necessarily take
over a whole house or apartment.
Signs inside the house include:
- Large amount of chemicals
- Coffee filters
- Boxes of red matches
- Stripped battery cases
- Cold or allergy medicines
- Strong or unpleasant chemical smells such as ammonia
- Chemistry equipment such as glass flasks, chemical reactors
etc
If you suspect cannabis production in a property,
inform the police immediately.

Fire Safety Message
Make your home fire safe and keep it that
way with this 5 step plan:
Step 1 - Fit a smoke alarm on each
level of the property. When a fire starts, you only have
a few minutes to escape so an early warning is vital. Make
sure you replace battery operated smoke alarm units after
10 years. Alternatively consider installing a 10 year battery
smoke alarm or mains powered alarm.
Step 2 - Test it weekly. A working
smoke alarm can buy you valuable time to get out, stay out
and dial 999.
Step 3 - Plan your escape route. Make
sure you and your family know the quickest way out in the
event of fire. Consider an alternative route in case your
usual one is blocked.
Step 4 - Stay safe in the kitchen.
This is the area where most house fires start. It only takes
a minute to check electrical appliances are switched off.
Also, never leave cooking unattended.
Step 5 - Ask the experts. Dorset Fire
& Rescue Services are always willing to help you prevent
a fire in your home. Find out more at www.dorsetfire.gov.uk

Broken a leg? Pulled an Achilles tendon or
coping with the aftermath of a painful bunion operation?
Struggling along on a pair of crutches, or worse still stuck
at home unable to get out?
Do not despair, because there is help waiting
for you at either the Boscombe or Castlepoint Shopmobility
units. Here you can hire for a small charge an electric
scooter or a manual wheelchair.
And you can decide yourself where to go. The
seafront and cliff top can be accessed from the Boscombe
Shopmobility unit using one of the powered scooters. All
of the shops at the Castlepoint Shopping Centre can be entered
easily and scooters are welcomed.
The Shopmobility unit at Castlepoint is at
the end of Aisle 11 on the lower ground car park. Enter
the car park at the B&Q entrance and follow the signs
to Shopmobility. You can find the Boscombe Shopmobility
on the ground floor car park in the Sovereign Centre.
For more information, including opening hours
and prices, please telephone Dave Parsons on 01202 399700
or Alison Morrison on 01202 598295.
